The Cursed Lands
navigation
overview
The Cursed Lands is a realm hidden away from humans. It is the home of many supernatural creatures, from elves to dragons, demons, etc. The realm can only be accessed through the Fraud Forest, a cursed forest where most mortals get lost and find their demise rather than the hidden realm itself. The thick of the forest like to play tricks on the intruders' minds, often resulting in madness. The Cursed Lands is often deceptive, making it a hazardous environment for simple mortals.

⟡ Faeneris
Faeneris is the kingdom of Fae. The Nightbloom dynasty have been leading it for centuries if not more. The current Queen is Fay Nightbloom, her heir is already named, but that information is hidden from anyone outside Faeneris to protect the future of the Kingdom.Faeneris has the most disciplined knights, priding themselves especially in the royal guards' capabilities. Faeneris is famous for another reason as well – their famous Noctshroom Field. Noctshroom is a versatile ingredient, but it's mostly famous for its healing properties. Dragons need it sometimes for their stomach burning, so the Fae and dragons made an alliance – fae would send the dragons noctshrooms in exchange for a dragon guarding their lands. There are several villages – Water Lily Glade, Crossing Grove, Aurora Meadows, Crimson Fernweh, and Pine Grove. Crimson Fernweh is the most notable village in Faeneris, as North of the village is the famous Vesper Temple – a famous temple where Fae can meditate and connect to their element the best.
⟡ Elves
Elf is a supernatural race, which is often associated with light, and grace. They are known for their ethereal beauty. They live secluded from the rest of the realm and have little interest in the Cursed Lands' affairs as long as they're not being threatened. Elves are immortal beings and have magical abilities, which include but are not limited to elemental powers, allure, telepathy. An elf can't wield all elements, they have one specific element from birth that they must master, however, in addition to that, they can manipulate light as well. Despite being immortal, elves can die due to extensive injuries.

Born in Aurora Groves and raised only by his mother, he showed a talent for sword fighting from a young age. To his teacher's encouragement and to his mother's sorrow, he left the village to become a page under Lord Rockshield.
His talents grew, and years later he became a squire, then a knight. He took part in countless raids against demons and vampires to free the elf slaves and protected Faeneris from their attempts to take back their slaves as part of the Elvish Legion. Has a reward for his loyalty and skills, he was appointed to be part of the Royal Guards' Order, as the personal guard of the heir to the throne, the Morning Star.
⟡ Draconia
Draconia is the island of dragons, located North of Faeneris. Dragons do not have a ruler or a strict hierarchy. Older dragons are more respected, but they all take care of themselves. The Northern part of Draconia is covered in mountains, which are perfect for nests. The mountains are common nesting places, as they're more protected from the elements and other dragons as well. The southern part of the island is covered by a forest with an old burnt-down tower from the time demons tried to take over Draconia too. The heart of Draconia is a lake that serves as the main water source for the dragons. The Draconian Mountains are full of gemstones. The dragons don't need it themselves, but they are extremely territorial. Many creatures met their demise when snuck onto the island.
⟡ Dragons
Dragons are ginormous, flying, lizard-like creatures, who are mostly known for their fire-breathing abilities. Their scales are strong and thick, which makes them almost impenetrable. Like Fae, dragons are immortal creatures too, but they possess the ability to heal, hence it makes them extremely hard to destroy. Dragons are very territorial, reacting aggressively when their nest is threatened. They have their own language and enjoy making up stories to entertain themselves and each other. Younger dragons are generally more curious, but more aggressive than older, more experienced ones. Their mating is three suns-long, and once fertilised, they lay eggs. In some rare cases, males can also lay eggs.
The Shadow Lands

The Shadow Lands are split into two parts – the Demons' Lands, and the Vampires' Lands, which can only be accessed through the Demons' Land. The land of demons is bare and full of volcanic activity. The main heat sources are the two lakes of magma, which the demons like to use as a public bath. Flora is almost non-existent, except for a few dead trees. The land is full of pits that are scattered all over, demons hoping to trap those foolish creatures who dare to wander to their territory. There are three demon towns – one by the bigger lava lake, and two on either side of the slightly smaller one. The Demopolis serves as home not only to thousands of demons but to the Demon King himself, Tenebrosus. The pride of the demons is the huge dragon skeleton, who centuries ago accidentally landed in their land, trying to get away from a storm. The demons took him down. Demons share their land with a few gargoyles, who stay near the narrow land that leads to the vampires' territory.
The second main territory of The Shadow Lands. It is inhabited by vampires and is covered with thick fog. The land is cold, even the two small volcanos can't warm it up. There is no living vegetation, the land is covered by dead trees and a lake, which is a source of the Bane River, a poisonous river that connects the nameless lake to the ocean. Only those who are full vampires can live on the peninsula, half-breeds are looked down upon. The vampires are ruled by the royal vampires, who are purebloods and descendants of the original vampires. They were not turned. They reside in the capital of the Vampires' Lands, Plasma City. Smaller manors are present all over the peninsula, the two most important ones helping the king as one member chosen from each of the two families as his advisor.

Demons
Demons are creatures who are often associated with evilness. They have horns and a tail, some also possess a pair of batwings. The bigger the horn of a demon, the more powerful they are. Demons often decorate their horns with jewellery made out of different metals, indicating their rank. The most powerful one – the king – wears white gold jewellery, the rest of the royal family and the most powerful generals have gold, then as the ranks go down there is silver, bronze, copper, and the lowest demons are not allowed to decorate their horns. Demons can only wear jewellery made out of the metal that corresponds to their rank. They're immortal beings and can't be truly killed. They can usually manipulate fire, possess other beings (mostly humans), telepathy, mimicry, shapeshifting, teleportation, etc. Demons are carnivorous, even though they do not require food. Higher-ranking demons often enslave lower-ranking demons or fae. Not all the demons are evil.
Vampires
Vampires are undead humanoid creatures, who are mostly known for feeding on blood. Vampires are immortal, with only one way to destroy – dismemberment and fire. Vampires have outstanding healing abilities, the only injury they can't heal from are burns. Other notable abilities are superhuman speed, enhanced senses, superhuman strength, hypnosis, illusions, and some even can turn into giant bats. They are easily recognisable for their blood-red eyes, fangs, pointed ears, and their charm. They often go to the human lands to feed and occasionally keep fae slaves. Vampires feed on humans and fae for blood, but vampires can feed on each other as well. Usually only mates do it only as it is usually considered an assault to feed on another vampire and is punishable, but it can be done during orgies too with consent.
Gargoyles
Gargoyles are humanoid creatures who possess wings and horns. They are nocturnal, during the day either hiding in their nests or if light touches them, turning into stone until the next nightfall. They usually have pointed ears like vampires, but they can also have fin-like ears and half-digitigrade legs. Their skin usually varies between different colours of stones, the eyes are either glowing red, yellow, or blue. Despite looking malevolent, gargoyles are protective creatures, especially of their mates and younglings. Gargoyles are immortal beings with rapid regeneration and can even grow back lost limbs. They also have sharp claws and a strong bite, and other abilities involve but are not limited to enhanced strength and stamina, enhanced agility, wallcrawling, night vision, and water manipulation. Gargoyles can live in clans and solitude. The gargoyles of the Cursed Lands are few, hence they live alone or with a mate.

One of the first turned vampires of The Cursed Lands, he was turned by the leader of the Blood Petals Clan. He was a simple human before he met the mysterious man who caught his interest. He was introduced to a world of danger and lust.
He was turned during an orgy, the clan leader thinking that he would be a worthy addition he wanted to make.
He took a big part in creating new vampires under the reign of the royal family and his clan, as well as being one of the first who acquired his slaves.
He was named as the successor of the clan leader for his determination to make the clan better and stronger.
⟡ Ressurrection
Ressurrection is the village of necromancers who got chased away from their kingdoms because of their practices. They settled close to the sea, hoping it would sustain their lands. However, wherever a necromancer settles down, the earth slowly begins to wither. The village consists of houses among fortified walls, a fortress where the young necromancers are trained, an altar where they can practice some of their rituals, and the fields where they grew their corps. Several old graveyards are scattered around the village, probably that was the reason the necromancers settled down on that part of the Cursed Lands.
⟡ Necromancers
Necromancers are humans who were born with the special ability to see the dead and faint traces of magic in their souls. Necromancers need to complete a ritual to unlock the magic in them by sacrificing a human or a fae, painting runes on the body of the corpse, the necromancer's own body, and on the ground in a circle. Once the offering is set, the necromancer has to cut themselves and paint an eye on their forehead with their own blood, and chant for Death to take the offering and grant them their power. Those who sacrifice fae will get bigger power and will need to study less. The Fae despise necromancers for hunting their kind for their disgusting rituals, and would occasionally organise raids to destroy as many necromancers as they can. Necromancers can use blood and shadow magic, but they usually master one out of the two. They can reanimate corpses, bring back ghosts to communicate, curse others with decay, and track souls among many other abilities. Necromancers are mortal beings, with longer lifespans than the average human.
Haunted Holt

The Haunted Holt is the home of all the spirits in the Cursed Lands. Ghosts, Wraiths, and other spirits roam the forest where the fog never disappears. It may be the place of eternal despair or a fresh start. This forest is just as treacherous as the Fraud Forest. Nothing other than spirits can navigate there. The Haunted Holt is full of ruins, homes of residents who mysteriously disappeared even before the first settlers appeared. Death made the desolated forest his realm, keeping the souls of those who died in the Cursed Lands there, so they can be in a familiar place.Death taught some spirits how to use soul dust to their advantage, letting ghosts make communities for themselves. Not only ghosts reside in the Haunted Holt, however. There are wraiths, and spirits that were made by Death, among many other creatures. In the Haunted Holt, the living can't be perceived by regular ghosts. As humans can't see ghosts in the outside world, ghosts can't see humans in the Haunted Holt.
Ghost
Ghosts are spirits that for some reason couldn't pass. The Ghosts' behaviour in the Haunted Holt depends on how long they have been dead, and on the type of death they had. Ghosts, whose bodies haven't been deceased for long, can be heard screaming. They're the shriekers. Ghosts, who have been dead for a long time, are the conscious. Since learning how to manipulate soul dust – which is their very essence – they can make themselves houses and whole communities. However, using their own essence will make them waste, and their souls never able to pass and reincarnate.
Wraith
Wraiths are the first creations of Death. They are spirits who can be both transparent and physical. Death wasn't circumspect when he created them, and they were born with a thirst for chaos and destruction. They don't require sustenance, but they eat flesh when they can. Death felt bad for his children, so he began to teach them other ways to live. He managed to teach some of the wraiths how to suppress their destructive tendencies. Wraiths have a spectral and physical form. Their sense of smell is extraordinary and they're stealthy, able to travel in the shadows undetected, making them an apex predator. Their physical form changes when they're about to eat, sharp rows of teeth sprouting as their cheeks split. They have shadow tentacles that come out from under their skins. The tentacles have a mind of their own, not always obeying their host. They can get out of control when a Wraith is experiencing strong emotions. The tentacles are so sensitive that when two Wraiths touch tentacles, they get a euphoric feeling wash over them. They don't experience this feeling with any other creature. Additional information can be found in the Appendix.
The Beast
The Beast is Death's second attempt at creation. He wanted to create a spirit that wouldn't be as destructive as wraiths. The Beast is one of a kind. He has a physical body and no spectral abilities. His build is monstrous with bones and fur, a wolf skull as a head, and deer antlers on the top of it. His eyes are two glowing orbs, two souls Death used for creating him, but has no recollection of the souls' memories or personality. The Beast has been around for centuries, but he's still young and has to learn. He doesn't need sustenance, but he often leaves the Haunted Holt to hunt, and once ate, he returns. He is very strong, and his emotions rapidly changing, as he doesn't have a good grip on his emotions yet. He can consume one soul in his lifetime. He is immortal.
Note: The guidebook may need to be updated once a new creation was made by Death.

⟡ Lupus
Lupus is where the werewolves of the Cursed Lands live. Lupus is almost as big as Faeneris, with many packs sharing the vast territory, but the most notable three are the Black Sierra Pack living North with a cave serving as their nest; the Wild Hunt Pack having the middle territory, and gathering around an old obelisk. The third pack that made the abandoned lumber their home is called the Dark Woods Pack. The packs coexist in peace, as long as their borders don't get crossed. They all have approximately similar-sized territory, while the shoreline is unclaimed. The Black Sierra Pack on the North has a slightly thicker fur, and they live in a cave. The pack is named Black Sierra not only because of the dark mountains but also because all the members have black fur, except for one.The Wild Hunt Pack is the most primitive out of the three packs. They usually gather around the old obelisk, but they move around a lot in their territory as well as the shoreline. They don't care about nesting, they live the most freely. The Dark Woods Pack lives south, their home an abandoned fae lumber. They're not as aggressive as the other main two packs, but they often trespass, which results in conflict between the packs.
⟡ Werewolves
Werewolves are humans who were either infected with lycanthrope or were already born as a werewolf and can shapeshift into a wolf form. They have heightened speed and strength, and an exceptionally good sense of smell and hearing, especially in their wolf form. They are very sensitive to emotion and easy to anger. When angered, they will turn into their wolf form and go on a rampage. Werewolves are carnivorous and hunt in a pack. The packs of unrelated members are usually led by an alpha and their luna, while betas are the second in line, advisors of the alpha and disciplining the pack. Deltas usually patrol the borders and take care of the ill and wounded. Omega is the lowest rank, eating after everyone, and is the target of others' aggression. In packs that consist of family members, the dynamics are different, with the leading pair being the parents and their children the subordinates. Werewolves mate for life. The mating pair makes a nest, and proceed with the mating. The male's knot ensures the success of the mating, resulting in pups. Werewolves are mortal with a long lifespan. The werewolves of the Cursed Lands are always in their werewolf forms and have forgotten how to turn back to humans, hence not able to anymore. The packs lived this way for centuries.

The Cursed Lands is such a unique place with its unique residents, that only a few chapters are not nearly enough to show their true beauty. In this part of The Ultimate Guide to The Cursed Lands the unlucky traveller who has found this book can read about all the information I've additionally collected throughout my journeys. I may not live to see the day when I finish it, but whoever picks it up, please, finish writing it.

Wraiths and Darkness
Wraiths regularly need to meditate to be in harmony with the darkness within them. The darkness - that is as much part of them as they are a part of it - is the one that causes their destructive urges and the source of their powers. A wraith who is disturbed during their meditation may fall out of balance, causing the darkness to take over. First, their cheeks split and their teeth sprout, then a black mass envelops and hides their body as it grows, destroying and consuming everything in its path. Methods of snapping a wraith out of its frenzy vary to individual. DO NOT DISTURB A MEDITATING WRAITH!
